Personal factors in language learning

Recent studies have proved that, contrary to the Behaviourist theory, individuals are no 'tabula rasa', we're born with knowledge already, and different kinds of knowledge are accessed, acquired and learnt in ways characteristic of each knowledge area. This is normally referred to as cognitive style. Teachers are encouraged to distiguish "field dependence" from "field independence" in their students.
